History

Terry & Denise McMillen Terry McMillen, Sr. and his wife, Denise, at the ground breaking of the McMillen Enginnering building on December 7, 2001.
In 1977, Terry E. McMillen, Sr. started the firm in the family room of his home in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.  Working long days and nights, Terry performed engineering design, calculations, and design drawings for his first clients while his wife Denise did final tracings for subdivision plans, the invoicing and all bookkeeping duties.

Their diligence and hard work paid off as the firm experienced steady growth in the late 70s.  Then, one day when Denise returned home from a shopping trip and could not get into the couple’s driveway because of client parking, they decided it was time for a change.

McMillen Engineering moved to Hopwood Pennsylvania (just right outside of Uniontown).  However, the firm’s project load continued to grow and it was soon time to move again, this time to nearby Hopwood Center.

Years later, on December 7, 2001, McMillen Engineering broke ground for a 6,000 square foot building in the Fayette County Business Park on Route 40, west of Uniontown. Present at the ceremony, were the Fayette County Commissioners, South Union Township Supervisors and representatives of three Pennsylvania Representatives, many business associates, and personal friends.  Vincent Vicities, Chairman, Fayette County Board of Commissioners, was the keynote speaker.

The firm moved into the new office building on May 1, 2002, and dedicated the building on July 17, 2002.  That year, McMillen Engineering also celebrated their 25th anniversary in business.

McMillen Engineering attributes their longevity and success to the extreme loyalty of their employees and a very low turnover rate. Therefore, offering excellent and consistent client service.

Many of the firm’s employees started working as interns during their summer break from college and became full-time after graduation.  The firm continues to strive for excellence through the continuing education of their employees.  This strategy avoids complacency and supports McMillen Engineering’s forward move in technology and ability.

Terry McMillen believes that professionalism and integrity have been the foundation of the firm’s success.

“Our reputation within the profession and community is very important to us and is always considered over profit.  While this has not always been easy, we remain steadfast in the pursuit,” says McMillen.  “We give each of our clients the time and respect that they deserve. We focus on being proactive and responsive to our clients and their needs, especially their deadlines.”

McMillen Engineering offers their clients timely service while producing a quality product.  The firm remains committed to providing sound engineering solutions using the application of basic civil engineering principles and a combination of tried-and-true approaches with state-of-the-art methods and resources.

The key to McMillen Engineering’s success has been to stay diversified, maintain a view to the future, and good business relationships.
