1977 McMillen Engineering is founded by Terry E. McMillen, Sr.
1980’s:           
McMillen Engineering completes many interesting projects during this decade, including the firm’s largest client Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa, owned by lumber magnate Joseph A. Hardy, III.  
The resort is one of America’s premier 4-Star and 4-Diamond luxury resort property. Located on 2,800 acres nestled in the Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Nemacolin offers luxury in a relaxed and natural setting, with 335 rooms and an extensive list of activity options.
 
• In 1988, McMillen Engineering receives a state and federal award as a part of the “Take Pride America” campaign.  The award was presented at a ceremony on the White House Lawn with President Reagan delivering the address.  The award recognized the Rotary Walk for the Uniontown Rotary Club that McMillen designed as a public service project.
 
• The firm purchases the civil engineering and surveying business of Albert J. Brody, P.E. and operates a second office for a short period of time at Riverview Place, West Newton, Pa.  Eventually both operations are consolidated into the Hopwood office.  The consolidation results in a relationship with C.B. Company. The firm continues to work with them on projects such as the Wal-Mart and Lowes development in Rostraver Township. 
 
1990's: 
• Site civil engineering designs are prepared for over two-hundred new 84 Lumber stores and several manufacturing and assembly sites for the corporation in many different states.  The initial designs begin in 1990 and continue through 2002.  The firm completes thirty sites in 1999 and about ten each year thereafter. This ongoing project results in Terry McMillen, Sr. becoming registered as a professional engineer in thirteen states. 
 
• McMillen Engineering’s new client The Gustine Company requires land development for major retail complexes.  The firm initially performs property and construction surveys and later site designs.  Projects include site civil engineering for Wal-Mart, Lowes, Giant Eagle, and other “big box” retailers. The opportunity opens the door to many new projects and the growth of the company escalates. 
 
• In 1993, site and civil engineering designs for Mystic Rock golf course at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa are completed and include new wetland development, an irrigation system, storage lakes and distribution. The course was designed by the legendary Pete Dye. 
 
• In 1994, McMillen Engineering completes the structural design for the Château LaFayette at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa, one of America’s four-star and four-diamond resort properties.
 
• In 1997, a five year site design project begins on twenty-three Pizza Hut sites throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.
 
• McMillen Engineering begins designs for the National Pike Water Authority, formerly HCSW to provide public water to a portion of the mountain area in the late 1990’s.  The original project, to provide public water for a portion of the mountain area, east of Uniontown, is completed and the firm continues to work on extensions today.  An extension will be constructed to Fort Necessity Historic Battlefield beginning in 2005.
 
• The firm prepares site development designs for about ten commercial and light industrial projects at the South Pointe Development in Washington County.  The site includes the South Pointe Hilton Garden Inn. McMillen Engineering also prepared ALTA surveys for most of these sites.
 
• McMillen Engineering performed structural designs installed at Penn State University, NASA and various high schools by Aqua Pool.
 
2000’s
Topographic and boundary surveys for Frank Lloyd Wright’s internationally acclaimed masterpiece Fallingwater and his Kentuck Knob are performed by McMillen Engineering.  Also performed were topographic and boundary surveys for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy at Bear Run in 2001.
 
• In 2001, civil site engineering is prepared for three Duke Energy power plants in the Fayette and Westmoreland Counties in Pennsylvania, and the Frederick County in Maryland.   
McMillen Engineering breaks ground for a 6,000 square foot building in the Fayette County Business Park on Route 40, west of Uniontown. 
McMillen Engineering named “Business of the Year” by the Fayette Chamber of Commerce for “commitment to the local community and support of the Chamber.”
 
• In 2002, site civil engineering designs begin for the Fayette County Business Park.  Today, the successful development has become the hub of commercial development in Fayette County.  The project will continue at least through 2006.
The firm’s new office building in the Fayette County Business Park is dedicated.
In the early part of the decade, McMillen Engineering partners with EPD of Pittsburgh to rewrite the Fayette County Planning and Zoning ordinances.  The firm worked with Pashek Associates to prepare “A Vision for the Brownsville to Uniontown Mon/Fayette Corridor Land Use Analysis”. As a result, McMillen Engineering is awarded the Pennsylvania Planning Association’s 2004 Outstanding Planning Award.
 
• In 2003, the firm completes site designs for Falling Rock on the Mystic Rock golf course at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa. A full-service hotel, Falling Rock features a clubhouse, and golf shop featuring 42 guest rooms and suites; 24-hour butler service; an executive boardroom; full-service men's and ladies' locker facilities; the exclusive Aqueous restaurant and Amber lounge with an adjacent patio; infinity pool with private cabanas and high-speed data technology.
 
• In 2004, McMillen prepares complete survey and land development designs for a major residential development in Fayette Township, Allegheny County.
The firm completes civil engineering designs of numerous enhancements of the Mystic Rock golf course at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa.
 
The firm completes site civil engineering for a major retail complex including a Super Wal-Mart and Lowe's in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
 
• In 2005, McMillen Engineering prepares site engineering designs, traffic studies and intersection designs for the Palmar Autoplex.
McMillen Engineering receives the 2004 “William H. Spurgeon, III Award” for the “highest recognition for individuals and organizations contributing significant leadership to the Exploring program” by the Boy Scouts of America
