LAND DEVELOPMENT WISTERIA LANE RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY AT NEMACOLIN RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT AT NEMACOLIN Attracting world-class talent to Nemacolin has been challenging for the resort for many years. Issues such as lack of housing at different levels of affordability remained a primary reason for this challenge. When Nemacolin recognized the need to grow its associate base at the property, they turned to McMillen Engineering, Inc. to help turn their vision of a functional and aesthetically-pleasing housing and recreational community for their associates into reality. PROJECT SCOPE Over the years, many of Nemacolin's associates would drive extended commutes, often from adjoining states such as Maryland and West Virginia, to find available housing. However, during the pandemic, they started losing the associates that were traveling more than thirty minutes via car to get to their job. The housing proposal established by McMillen Engineering, Inc. offered a solution that would prove to be beneficial for Nemacolin and its associates. This plan allowed Nemacolin to attract and retain world-class talent, offer a community atmosphere for those that chose to live and work at the resort, and provide an affordable living alternative for many of their one thousand associates. The Wisteria Lane Residential Land Development project has not only resolved their workforce issue but has also given all resort associates access to its many amenities, including a community recreational center, basketball court, pickleball court, swimming pool, and a grocery store. Secured funding from various state and federal funding programs for improvements along the historic National Road in Hopwood, PA between South Union and North Union Townships. CIVIL ENGINEERING CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS IN HOPWOOD, PA IMPROVEMENTS TO HISTORICAL CORRIDOR McMillen Engineering collaborated with various regulatory agencies, the Department of Transportation and individual property owners on the Village of Hopwood Corridor Improvements along the historic National Road between South Union and North Union Townships. The project resulted in a beautifully-detailed design complete with historic stamped sidewalks, historic lighting, gateway entry signs, planters and benches along the 2.1 mile length of roadway. McMillen Engineering also secured funding for the improvements from various state and federal funding programs. CORRIDOR PROJECT OVERVIEW The Hopwood Corridor sits along the historic National Road (U.S. Route 40) and is shared between two municipalities. The residents of Hopwood initiated a project to beautify this main corridor of their communities but wanted to maintain sensitivity to the history of the National Road. Each municipality supported the improvements provided that the properties along the corridor were not adversely affected. McMillen Engineering served as the civil engineer and conducted monthly public meetings to allow residents and elected officials the opportunity to provide input on each aspect of the project — from conceptual design through construction. Since the completion of the project, the enhancements along the corridor have been maintained by the Townships, volunteers who reside in Hopwood, and business owners. Various organizations have held events along the corridor which have provided opportunities for the improvements to be showcased. South Union Township even decided to develop a park at the end of the improvements in remembrance of Supervisor Frankhouser who was committed and dedicated to the corridor project.
