- National Pike Water Authority | Civil Engineering & Permit Acquisition | McMillen Engineering, Inc.
McMillen Engineering established a design for a 115 feet tall water storage tank for the NPWA, providing civil engineering design and permit acquisition. CIVIL ENGINEERING NATIONAL PIKE WATER AUTHORITY CIVIL ENGINEERING AND PERMIT ACQUISITION McMillen Engineering worked with the National Pike Water Authority (NPWA) to provide water line in Henry Clay, Stewart and Wharton Townships and throughout Markleysburg Borough. While providing civil engineering design and preparing all required permits for the entire project, McMillen Engineering also worked in partnership with the NPWA, the municipalities, and the residents and business owners in the service area. Project scope for the National Water Pike Authority: Civil engineering Design Permit Preparation for the Entire Project Collaboration with NPWA, Municipalities, and Local Stakeholders Design of the Water Storage Tank Securing Funding PROJECT OVERVIEW When the National Pike Water Authority recognized the need to increase water supply for multiple residents throughout the four municipalities which it serves, they contacted McMillen Engineering to request a proposal for a solution. After conducting an assessment of the NPWA's needs and defining structural capabilities, McMillen Engineering established a design for a 115 feet tall, above-ground water storage tank with capacity for expansion of the system. The tank was constructed utilizing a distinct process which allowed it to be built from the ground upward without the necessity of a crane. This process permitted assembly workers to remain on the ground throughout the construction process and also allowed construction to continue through varying weather conditions. McMillen Engineering also helped to secure federal, state and local funding for the project. PROJECT PHOTOS LEARN MORE & GET IN TOUCH REVIEW OUR PROJECTS EXPLORE SERVICES COMPLETE INQUIRY FORM
- The History of McMillen Engineering Inc. in Uniontown, PA
Discover the history of McMillen Engineering, Inc—our roots, milestones, and growth over the years as we've built a reputation for quality and reliability in civil engineering and land surveying. COMPANY HISTORY About McMillen Engineering, Inc. "The sum of our contributions must exceed our rewards." - Terry McMillen, Sr . Terry E. McMillen, Sr. founded McMillen Engineering Inc. in 1977. It was a rather humble beginning as Terry and his wife, Denise, began by converting a portion of the family room in their home into office space. The early years required long days, a lot of work and dedication as the company grew steadily. They soon realized the need for an office outside of their home and moved into their first ‘official’ office in Hopwood, Pennsylvania. They stayed at this location for a few years, then moved to the Hopwood Center for more office space. The company’s continual growth led to the construction of a new office building in the Fayette County Business Park on Wayland Smith Drive, just west of Uniontown. It was their 25th year in business and it was a great way to begin the second twenty-five years. Since 1977, McMillen Engineering Inc. has provided a wide spectrum of civil engineering, but the consistent focus from the first project at Todd Farm until today has been land development. The initial projects were a variety of residential developments followed by commercial/light industrial projects and then large-scale retail developments. As the needs and opportunities of society changed, they expanded services to include infrastructure (water and sewer), design of sewage treatment plants, sewerage collection and water distribution systems, structural design, environmental engineering, and traffic engineering. We believe that education - at all levels - provides growth opportunities not only personally and professionally, but also collectively as a society. This philosophy led us to several collaborations with community partners to provide informative workshops and trainings for colleagues and local professionals. In addition to ensuring professional development among our team and within the engineering and surveying professions, we remain involved in educational programs for students throughout Fayette County.

Project Scope for Nemacolin Woodlands Art Gallery Project: 4,127 SF art museum building 18-space parking lot with ADA-compliant design Pedestrian access route connecting museum to resort amenities Utility extensions (water, electric, telecommunications) Stormwater collection and conveyance facilities Base mapping and topographic survey Preliminary and final site land development planning NPDES permit preparation and erosion control plan Utility and sewage coordination with local authorities BRINGING ART TO LIFE AT NEMACOLIN The Nemacolin Art Gallery was envisioned as a cultural centerpiece within the resort, designed to enhance the guest experience while respecting the natural landscape. Our team’s role was to ensure that every technical element supported this vision. Site Planning with Purpose: Detailed base mapping and topographic surveys allowed us to design a site plan that minimized earthwork, preserved natural features, and created a welcoming pedestrian experience. Guest-Centered Access: The parking lot and pedestrian routes were designed for convenience and inclusiveness, blending seamlessly into the resort’s aesthetic while ensuring ADA compliance. Sustainable Infrastructure: Stormwater management and erosion control strategies protected the resort’s environment, meeting regulatory requirements and aligning with the resort’s sustainability goals. Behind-the-Scenes Reliability: Utility extensions and sewage coordination ensured the museum operates with dependable infrastructure, invisible to guests but critical to the experience. The result: a museum that not only showcases art but also demonstrates how thoughtful engineering and land development can elevate Nemacolin’s cultural offerings, protect its environment, and create a lasting guest experience. - Nemacolin Entrance | Farmington, PA
McMillen Engineering prepared a few design concepts for this road reconfiguration project at Nemacolin. Working on a strict timeline, this civil engineering project was completed on time with stunning results. CIVIL ENGINEERING GRAND ENTRANCE AT NEMACOLIN RESORT ENTRANCE REDESIGN During a routine meeting with this forty-year client, the owner stated how unfortunate it was that the Chataeu Lafayette was not visible upon its approach due to the configuration of the access road. At that time Nemacolin had two entrances from Route 40 that joined together before it reached the Chateau from the side. McMillen Engineering prepared a few design concepts that joined the two entrances into one and completely changed the entrance road alignment so that it approached with the Chateau in full view. Project scope for the Grand Entrance at Nemacolin: Base Mapping Preliminary Site Planning Final Site Land Development Planning Stormwater Management Planning NPDES Permit Preparation Utility Coordination Construction Engineering and Inspection CREATING A GRAND ENTRANCE AT NEMACOLIN Originally the parking garage was on a side road with entry at a lower level without any view of the hotel. Our new design provided a bridge directly from the entrance to the top of the garage, which added a full view of the Chateau upon arrival and a stunning view of the mountain upon departure. McMillen Engineering designed new access roads to the north of the main campus to be used by delivery vehicles and service staff. This design provided a concealed entrance, whereas previous deliveries and service access were mainly front of the house. Soon after the design was approved, it was announced that Nemacolin would host a portion of the Bachelorette television show. The client decided that the new entrance should be complete before taping of the show, which meant construction through the worst of winter. The harsh winter weather resulted in sub-zero temperatures on many days during the construction process. Because keeping the soil and concrete from freezing was difficult, heavy blankets were needed to keep the subbase soil from freezing before the concrete was poured. This method was necessary to keep the concrete from freezing before it properly set-up to the desired strength. This civil engineering project was completed on time with stunning results.
