  • Development of Residential Community For Associates at Nemacolin

The proposal by McMillen Engineering, Inc. for Nemacolin has contributed to successfully attracting and retaining world-class talent to the resort, providing a community atmosphere, and offering affordable living for associates. The Wisteria Lane Residential Land Development project has addressed workforce issues and provided resort associates with amenities such as a recreational center, sports courts, a swimming pool, and a grocery store. LAND DEVELOPMENT WISTERIA LANE RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY AT NEMACOLIN RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT AT NEMACOLIN Attracting world-class talent to Nemacolin has been challenging for the resort for many years. Issues such as lack of housing at different levels of affordability remained a primary reason for this challenge. When Nemacolin recognized the need to grow its associate base at the property, they turned to McMillen Engineering, Inc. to help turn their vision of a functional and aesthetically-pleasing housing and recreational community for their associates into reality. PROJECT SCOPE Over the years, many of Nemacolin's associates would drive extended commutes, often from adjoining states such as Maryland and West Virginia, to find available housing. However, during the pandemic, they started losing the associates that were traveling more than thirty minutes via car to get to their job. The housing proposal established by McMillen Engineering, Inc. offered a solution that would prove to be beneficial for Nemacolin and its associates. This plan allowed Nemacolin to attract and retain world-class talent, offer a community atmosphere for those that chose to live and work at the resort, and provide an affordable living alternative for many of their one thousand associates. The Wisteria Lane Residential Land Development project has not only resolved their workforce issue but has also given all resort associates access to its many amenities, including a community recreational center, basketball court, pickleball court, swimming pool, and a grocery store. Since the Hardy Family purchased the property in 1987, they have invested heavily in both the physical location and the associates that work there. They are proud of their annual ranking as a top employer in Fayette County, PA and look forward to offering lucrative career opportunities as the resort continues to attract national and international guests to what is becoming a popular destination within the world’s resort community. • Understand the benefits of land surveying

Discover the key benefits of professional land surveying, from preventing boundary disputes to supporting construction plans. Ensure clarity, compliance, and peace of mind with accurate property data. Benefits of Land Surveying: Why a Professional Land Survey Is Essential for Your Property Protection One of the key benefits of land surveying is protecting your property from unintentional or unlawful encroachment. Whether it’s a home in the suburbs or an undeveloped investment parcel, unclear boundaries leave your land vulnerable. It might be a neighbor cutting down a single tree or a logging company clearing acres—either way, the damage can be significant and, in many cases, irreversible. Peace of Mind Another major benefit of land surveying is the peace of mind it offers. For most people, a home is the largest investment they’ll make. Before purchasing, a land survey confirms that the size and boundaries of the property are accurately represented—ensuring there’s room for future improvements and no existing encroachments. Before selling, a survey can uncover boundary issues that might otherwise delay or derail a transaction, giving both seller and buyer greater confidence in the deal. Unlock the full potential of your property with a precise, professional land survey by McMillen Engineering, Inc. We'll help you: Maximize Your Property Use: Ensure accurate placement of landscaping, fencing, and structures. Protect Your Boundaries: Prevent encroachments and clearly define your property lines. Avoid Legal Disputes: Minimize the risk of costly boundary-related litigation. Support Project Planning: Determine if additions like pools, sheds, or home extensions are feasible within your lot. Gain Confidence and Clarity: Know exactly what you own and enjoy greater peace of mind Let McMillen Engineering, Inc. help you make informed decisions about your land with accuracy you can trust. • The History of McMillen Engineering Inc. in Uniontown, PA

Discover the history of McMillen Engineering, Inc—our roots, milestones, and growth over the years as we've built a reputation for quality and reliability in civil engineering and land surveying. COMPANY HISTORY About McMillen Engineering, Inc. "The sum of our contributions must exceed our rewards." - Terry McMillen, Sr . Terry E. McMillen, Sr. founded McMillen Engineering Inc. in 1977. It was a rather humble beginning as Terry and his wife, Denise, began by converting a portion of the family room in their home into office space. The early years required long days, a lot of work and dedication as the company grew steadily. They soon realized the need for an office outside of their home and moved into their first ‘official’ office in Hopwood, Pennsylvania. They stayed at this location for a few years, then moved to the Hopwood Center for more office space. The company’s continual growth led to the construction of a new office building in the Fayette County Business Park on Wayland Smith Drive, just west of Uniontown. It was their 25th year in business and it was a great way to begin the second twenty-five years. Since 1977, McMillen Engineering Inc. has provided a wide spectrum of civil engineering, but the consistent focus from the first project at Todd Farm until today has been land development. The initial projects were a variety of residential developments followed by commercial/light industrial projects and then large-scale retail developments. As the needs and opportunities of society changed, they expanded services to include infrastructure (water and sewer), design of sewage treatment plants, sewerage collection and water distribution systems, structural design, environmental engineering, and traffic engineering. We believe that education - at all levels - provides growth opportunities not only personally and professionally, but also collectively as a society. This philosophy led us to several collaborations with community partners to provide informative workshops and trainings for colleagues and local professionals. In addition to ensuring professional development among our team and within the engineering and surveying professions, we remain involved in educational programs for students throughout Fayette County.

  • Culvert Replacement | McMillen Engineering

McMillen Engineering provided culvert engineering services for the Fayette Springs Culvert Replacement, improving road safety. We offer expert erosion control and stormwater solutions for infrastructure protection. CIVIL ENGINEERING CULVERT REPLACEMENT CULVERT ENGINEERING SERVICES The Fayette Springs Culvert Replacement project in Wharton Township, Fayette County utilized funding through the Low Volume Road Program and new technology of the Express Foundation system - the first of its kind to be installed in Pennsylvania. The project spanned approximately 18 feet on Fayette Springs Road and crosses Big Sandy Creek, which is designated a high quality cold water fishery (HQ CWF). Project scope for the Culvert Replacement Project: Engineering Design for Culvert Replacement Preparation of Permits and Compliance with DEP Standards Stormwater Management Implementation Environmental Protection Planning Coordination with Local Municipalities and Funding Agencies CULVERT REPLACEMENT OVERVIEW The existing culvert was undersized and often flooded in heavy rain events, resulting in a public safety issue requiring the roadway to be closed to the public. Temporary measures were taken to open the roadway while a permanent solution was sought. The original culvert had a splash discharge, which was detrimental to the functioning of a High Quality Cold Water Fishery stream because it prohibited the migration of fish upstream, and therefore did not meet the current DEP standards. McMillen Engineering, Inc. proposed the use of a Contech Aluminum Box Culvert with an open bottom utilizing an Express Foundation system. This solution saved money, but also minimized the time that the road was closed. This once flood prone area has weathered recent storms without incident. Wharton Township now has a structure that has improved the health and safety of the residents while allowing native brook trout to migrate north towards the headwaters of Big Sandy Creek helping to preserve the native brook trout for generations to come.
